Lock and Key-Sarah Dessen @ 11:39 PM

Synopsis:

Ruby is used to taking care of herself. But now she's living in a fancy new house with her sister Cora—a sister she hasn't seen in ten years—and her husband Jamie—creator of one of the most popular online networking sites. She's attending private school, wearing new clothes, and for the first time, feels the promise of a future that include college and her family. So why is she so wary? And what is Nate— the adorable and good-hearted boy next door— hiding behind his genial nature? As Ruby starts to see, there's a big difference between being given help, and being able to accept it. And sometimes, in order to save yourself, you've got to reach out to someone else.

Review:

Description in one word: CHANGE

At first, I was reluctant to pick up this book. I was on vacation, and needed a new book to read (I had already finished the five I brought with me :] ), and this was the only one I could find. True, it had been on my TBR list, but it was a total change from what I had been reading. Looking back on it, I have no idea why I hesitated to pick up this book. Lock and Key was truly a phenomenal book. It tells the story of Ruby Cooper, a troubled girl who doesn't rely on anyone, and is used to living with nobody relying on her. But, everything changes when she is forced to move in with her sister, Cora, and her husband, Jamie.

The characters in this book were TOTALLY relateable. Ruby, having gone through so much, was a down-to-earth person who could pretty much relate to anybody, regardless of what they were going through. Nate, the boy-next-door, is pretty much the perfect boy; at least, that's how he is on the surface. Cora is a real caretaker. No matter who it is that's in trouble, she's always there to pick up the pieces and comfort them. Jamie was definitely the optimistic one. He had such a positive outlook on everything. All these characters developed substantially throughout the book, especially Ruby.

The plot of Lock and Key was unlike anything I have read before; totally unique. It is a truly touching novel that will stay with me for many years to come. I would recommend this book to ANYBODY, and I just cannot wait to read more by Sarah Dessen; she has amazed me once again with another lovely book that will keep you reading until the very end.

Rating: 9.5-A WONDERFUL READ. Recommended to anybody looking for a great read. You need to pick it up :)
